Established in 1978, the Wayne Correctional Center is a medium security prison for adult males. The prison accommodates more than 400 inmates. Its drug/alcohol recovery treatment (DART) program provides intensive inpatient treatment in a 35 to 90 day treatment cycle with lectures, films, and educational and therapy groups. The program also offers individual counseling sessions. The Wayne Correctional Center s inmates work with professional staff and peer counselors. The prison, in a partnership with Wayne Community College, provides adult educational classes. Its inmates are assigned to work as maintenance and kitchen staff at the prison. The Wayne Correctional Center is a part of the Division of Prisons of the North Carolina Department of Correction.
