I use my knowledge of endocrinology and metabolism to diagnose and help patients. My main interest is in the thyroid. I treat thyroid disease and cancer as well as other endocrine diseases, including disorders of calcium metabolism, osteoporosis, disorders of the adrenal, pituitary and male reproductive glands, and diabetes. My passion for thyroid cancer and nodules was inspired by my fellowship training, when I worked under Ernest Mazzaferri, MD, a renowned thyroidologist. His passion proved infectious and influential in developing my skills. \n My interest in endocrinology first began in my second year of medical school while studying pathology. It clicked, and I found studying the pathways fascinating. \n I greatly value the feedback I get from actively listening to my patients. In fact, when you visit, a scribe will also be present in the room who takes notes for me during the visit.?This allows me the time to focus on my patient, rather than on taking notes. My goal is to communicate with the patient first, not a computer. \n I live in Winston-Salem with my husband and two sons. I am a runner and enjoy outdoor activities in my free time. \n
