History
This Winston-Salem city park is on the site of the former Piedmont Quarry, which mined granite from the mid-1920s until the 1970s. Steep cliffs surround the deep lake, which formed after the operation shut down and the quarry pit filled with rainwater. In 2014 voters approved the land's conversion to a park as part of a bond referendum.
