The Pitt County Detention Center is operated under the general supervision of the Pitt County Sheriff s Office, which is administered by the government of Pitt County in North Carolina. The center is responsible for the care, control and custody of inmates. It is funded by the Pitt County Board of Commissioners. The Pitt County Detention Center also offers emergency medical care services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, the center provides nursing, dental and psychiatric care services. The Pitt County Sheriff s Office is responsible for the prevention of crimes and the protection of lives in the community. The office operates through various divisions, including detention, investigations and patrol. Its civil enforcement unit organizes and conducts sales of personal and real property at public auctions.
