The North Chatham Volunteer Fire Department works to prevent lives and properties of individuals in Chatham and Orange counties in North Carolina. It manages more than 55 fire fighters and operates various fire stations. The department responds to over 1,750 fire incidents annually. It was founded in 1968 and maintains facilities that are spread over a total area of nearly 255 square miles. The North Chatham Volunteer Fire Department handles emergency medical calls, land search operations, and automobile accidents, as well as conducts water and dive rescues and recoveries. Additionally, it works to prevent the community environment from the destructive effects of fire, disaster and related life hazards by providing public education, incident prevention and emergency response services.
