Established in 1973, the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency is a self-supporting public agency that has provided financial assistance for more than 180,000 affordable homes and apartments. It offers various homeownership, rental and home protection programs that focus on mortgage and loan options for moderate- and low-income individuals and families. The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency provides the Supportive Housing Development Program, which provides interest-free mortgage loans for the development of emergency, transitional and permanent housing facilities for homeless individuals and persons with special housing needs. It conducts several conferences that focus on the use of recycled materials, in-house air quality, and energy and water efficiencies.
