Crimestoppers is a nonprofit organization in which members of the community, the media, law enforcement agencies and businesses work together to solve crime. The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors composed of Caldwell County residents interested in combating crime and improving community safety. The Crimestoppers coordinator is a sworn police detective, appointed and paid by the Lenoir Police Department, who manages criminal information and reports to the civilian board about successful tips. It publicizes unsolved crimes via radio, newspaper and television each week and residents are encouraged to call the Crimestoppers s helpline. It encourages residents via cash rewards and a promise of anonymity for providing information leading to the arrest of criminals and the recovery of illegal narcotics and stolen property.
