Founded in 2000, Highland School of Technology enrolls more than 550 students in grades 9 through 12. It is a magnet school with an emphasis on three career and technical academies, including communications and information technology, health sciences and biomedical technology, and manufacturing and graphics. The school offers a variety of advanced placement courses. It provides opportunities to participate in a range of sports activities, such as baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball and wrestling. The school involves students in several organizations, including the National Technical Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, student council, quiz bowl, and art, beta, book, drama, recycling and photography clubs. Highland School of Technology is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is located in Gastonia, N.C. It is a part of Gaston County Schools, which administers several elementary, middle and high schools.
