History
In 1991, the founders of the Green River Preserve, a nature camp for academically gifted students, proposed the idea to establish a school that combined a nurturing environment with a curriculum enriched by hands-on learning experiences. Hickory Day School opened in the fall of 1993.
Specialties
Hickory Day School, serving students from transitional kindergarten (5-year-olds) to 8th grade, is one of only 15 elementary schools in North Carolina to be authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization as a Primary Years Programme. We offer students in transitional kindergarten through eighth grade a comprehensive college-preparatory, inquiry-based curriculum in a nurturing environment. We strive to create globally aware, lifelong learners who are equipped to handle the challenges of the 21st century through many curricular and co-curricular programs including core academics, music, theater, visual art, wellness, fitness, and foreign language.
