Hatteras Yachts produced its first sport-fishing yacht on March 22, 1960. Christened the Knit Wits, the company s first boat was one of the first fiberglass motor yachts and the precursor to its cruising yacht line. Ranging in length from 63 to 100 feet in length, Hatteras Yachts manufactures a product line of numerous types of yachts. The company produces all of its boats at its 95-acre facility in New Bern, N.C., which opened in 1997. Hatteras Yachts, a unit of Brunswick Corporation, produces offshore fishing boats, sportfishing convertibles and luxury motoryachts through the Albemarle Boats, Cabo Yachts and Hatteras Yachts brands. Based in Knoxville, Tenn., the Brunswick Boat Group, a unit of Brunswick Corporation, is a maker of pleasure boats with 2005 net sales of $2.8 billion.
