History
Harris Architects' work is a mix of new construction and historic preservation that reflects the expertise and interests of founding partners Ellen Pratt Harris AIA and Douglas K. Harris AIA. After moving to North Carolina in 1995, Ellen started a practice focusing on the restoration and rehabilitation of historic buildings. The firm's work broadened in 1998 to include residential, commercial, and religious buildings when Doug became a partner. Full architectural services are now provided to both private and public clients for a wide range of projects. Two staff LEED Accredited Professionals assist clients in exploring and implementing the latest in sustainable and green building practices.
Specialties
Architecture is both a problem-solving and service profession, and Harris Architects is structured to provide professional services and design solutions that are directly responsive to each client's needs. Asking the right questions, listening and responding to the answers, and managing the process are critical to a successful project. Continuity in project management and design efforts is achieved through Principal involvement. This is fundamental in leading the design process in a clear, logical, and efficient manner. Every project requires the compilation of a wide range of information, materials, methods, skills, and expertise. Harris Architects has developed a methodology that reflects the importance of coordination and communication throughout all phases of each project.
