History
Research behind the ghosts of old Wilmington began in 1978 by Kim Hirchak. The research was informal and done simply by Kim's curious nature in all things unusual. In 1996 Kim and her husband, John, decided to do something with all of the information Kim had collected. In the beginning Kim and John simply shared the stories with friends and neighbors while walking around the historic downtown. By 1999 it was clear there was a real interest in this local ghost lore and so the couple began conducting formal tours. With the help of Denise Ward and others the tour began to quickly grow. The Ghost Walk was soon followed by the Haunted Pub Crawl, the Hollywood Location Walk, the book Ghosts of Old Wilmington and then in 2007, The Black Cat Shoppe.
