First Ward Elementary School, located in Charlotte, N.C., is a magnet school that is governed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, which is one of the largest school systems in the United States with an enrollment of more than 127,000 students in over 150 schools. The school maintains chess, dance and drama clubs, a chorus and safety patrol team. First Ward Elementary School organizes various programs, including Girls on the Run, Right Moves For Youth and tutorial classes. It has a staff of nearly 90 full-time certified teachers and paraprofessionals that includes speech and language pathologists, Title I teachers, math coaches, literacy facilitators, psychologists, student services specialists and custodians.
