Step inside Early Bird Donuts and you are welcomed by the Chea family and wafting sweet and savory aromas from cinnamon and sugar to locally harvested eggs and vegetables from local farmer's markets, not to mention the indulgent smell of coffee. Approach the counter and you will be tempted by enormous breakfast sandwiches that keep you fueled for the day. Baker and owner, Sowadi Chea, is Cambodian-American, and after years of owning other restaurants, decided that he wanted to be part of the Bull City foodie scene. He begins his day hand-kneading the donuts and pastries, using skills he developed under the tutelage of generations of Cambodian-American bakers before him.
