Healthy Start Academy became the state's first public charter school, serving inner-city Durham students who were at-risk for academic failure. Today, we love to boast about graduates who have attended some of the nation's most respected colleges. Go Lions!

Healthy Start Academy, the first charter school in North Carolina, is a public K-8 school where individualized learning comes first. We provide breakfast and lunch at no cost for all students, most school supplies are furnished, and highly qualified, nurturing teachers make our school great.
