Duke Occupational & Environmental Safety Office assists Duke University and Duke Medical Center in meeting regulatory and safety requirements in the areas of biology, environmental programs, ergonomics, fire safety, laboratories, occupational hygiene and radiation. The primary objective of OESO is to improve and protect the health and safety of Duke employees, visitors, students and the surrounding environment through the identification of workplace hazards and the development of appropriate control measures. It identifies hazardous conditions, develops appropriate control measures, implements controls through specialized training and monitors the effectiveness of the controls. OESO produces newsletters, safety manuals and provides online training for Duke employees and students. The organization is located in Durham, N.C.
