Durham Academy Middle School
Founded in 1933, The Durham Academy is an independent, coeducational institution that serves more than 1,135 students in prekindergarten through grade 12. Located in Durham, N.C., the academy provides general academic, college preparatory and advanced placement programs. Its academic curriculum includes statistics, economics, computer science, calculus and environmental science. The academy also conducts classes in Web multimedia, networking and creative writing. The Durham Academy supports a range of sports activities that includes cross country, soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball, swimming, baseball, softball, golf, lacrosse, and track and field. The academy operates student organizations, such as the International Thespian Society and debate, linguistics, animal rights and chess clubs. It also offers after-school programs, including piano, violin, dance and gymnastics classes. The academy operates a parent-teacher association that raises funds and supports social and enrichment programs.
