The Burke Arts Council, founded 1975, is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation funded by individual membership and corporate donors. The Burke Arts Council houses three galleries which provide space for both local and out of state artists. Interested artists are encouraged to submit slides or photos which are reviewed by the Burke Arts Council Gallery Committee. The Burke Arts Council/Jailhouse Gallery retains a 30% commission on all sales. Photography, sculpture, painting, drawing, mixed media, etc. are accepted. Mission of the Burke Arts Council Our mission is to enrich the quality of life in Burke County through cultural and artistic activities. We seek to coordinate arts activities in the community, serve as an information and resource center for the arts and promote local artists and arts organizations. Burke Arts Council Sales Gallery The Sales Gallery, a part of the Burke Arts Council/Jailhouse Gallery is dedicated to promoting the art and crafts of Burke County artists and craftsmen. Interested artists and craftsmen are encouraged to submit their work for review by the Burke Arts Council Sales Gallery Committee. The committee reviews work based on originality and skill. All work must be handcrafted. The Sales Gallery retains a 30% commission on all sales. Artists are paid monthly for items sold. The gallery offers a wide selection of items including fine artwork, prints, hand crafted jewelry, pottery, glass, woodcraft, woven items and unusual gift ideas. A broad price range is available. A permanent wheelchair ramp for persons with disabilities is available at the Burke Arts Council.
