Garden City High School, a United States Department of Education School of Excellence, vows to provide a physically safe and emotionally secure environment, where students are challenged to strive for personal excellence through educational, athletic, creative and extracurricular pursuits. Its goal and responsibility is to help each student develop an enthusiasm for learning, a respect for self and others, and the skills to become a creative independent thinker and problem solver. Every student is required to earn a minimum of 22 credits to meet graduation requirements and study a minimum of six courses in addition to physical education each year. For the Class of 2009, 96% graduated with a Regents diploma, 37% earned an Advanced Regents diploma, 38% earned an Advanced Regents diploma with Honors, 2% earned a local diploma and 1% earned an IEP diploma.
