Engineer Cor Drost, who as a senior research associate at the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, invented the Gold Standard transit-time ultrasound flowmeter, founded Transonic Systems in 1983. The company sells flowmeters, as well as hemodialysis monitors and laser Doppler perfusion monitors to surgeons, nephrologists, researchers and equipment manufacturers throughout the world. Transonic has nearly 140 employees throughout the world with regional offices in the United States, the Netherlands, Germany, France and Taiwan. The company is one of the leaders in flow measurement technology, as well as in flowmeter sales. It is privately owned and headquartered in Ithaca, N.Y.
