Sven Wenske, MD is a urologist at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Hudson Valley and an associate professor of urology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Dr. Wenske has been on faculty in the Department of Urology at Columbia since 2013. In March 2022, Dr. Wenske was named the Director of Urology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital and NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Hudson Valley. Dr. Wenske treats all urologic disorders. Well-published, Dr. Wenske has contributed his research in peer-reviewed journals, and textbook chapters, and has lectured at several national and international urologic conferences. An award-winning researcher and clinician, Dr. Wenske was the recipient of the Physician Research Training Award from the Prostate Cancer Research Program by the Department of Defense in 2013. The award funded his research on prostate cancer and the underlying resistance mechanisms to currently available drugs in the advanced settings of this disease. In December 2015, Dr. Wenske received a Prostate Cancer Hypothesis Development Grant funded by the New York State, Department of Health for a two-year period, to further his work in prostate cancer biology and treatment response to different medications. After graduating from the University of Hamburg Medical School in Germany, Dr. Wenske completed his internship and residency in urology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center/ NewYork-Presbyterian. Prior to joining the department, Dr. Wenske spent three years as a urology resident at the University Hospitals in Hamburg and Bochum, Germany. He served his fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), where he investigated prostate cancer onset and progression in the laboratories of Dr. Peter Scardino and Dr. Hans Lilja in the Department of Urology. The research was funded by a grant from the German Heinrich-Hertz foundation, as well as the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
