Founded in 1974, the Suffolk County Office for the Aging is a county division that offers educational, legal assistance, transportation and in-home services. Located in Hauppauge, N.Y., the division s case management services include screening, monitoring, planning and assessment. The Suffolk County Office for the Aging also offers family caregiver support services, such as respite care and counseling. Its senior adult day care services include supervision, recreational, socialization and personal care. In addition, it provides on-the-job training, placement assistance, skill assessment, and job listing and search services. The Suffolk County Office for the Aging offers the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), which provides financial assistance for low-income senior citizens to meet costs from home heating. The division is a part of the Suffolk County Division of Human Services, which operates through handicapped services, minority affairs and youth bureau divisions.
