Founded in 1886 as the Standard Paint Company, G-I Holdings later evolved into GAF Corporation. The company became private in 1989 via a leveraged buyout. In 1997, it spun off its specialty chemicals business to ISP Holding. GAF's remaining subsidiary, Building Materials Corporation of America, manufactures roofing and other building materials. The operation does business under the name GAF Materials Corporation, and its brand names include Timberline, Sovereign, Slateline, Grand Sequoia and Weather Stopper. G-I Holdings' headquarters are located in Wayne, N.J. In 2006, G-I Holdings was listed by Forbes as the 182nd-largest private company.
