St. Thomas the Apostle Church is a Roman Catholic church that was founded in 1931. The first services were held in a storefront located on what is now Hempstead Gardens Drive until the church building was constructed in 1934. The first mass was held on Christmas Eve of 1934 and the building was officially dedicated during the following year. In addition to regular prayer services, the church also has an adult and children's choir, weekly Bible study groups, a book club, a knitting club and various classes and workshops throughout the year. There is also a youth program for middle school and high school students that holds social events, coordinates volunteer projects in the community and stages a musical each year open to all local teens. The church welcomes a mission preacher, holds adult courses every year during Lent and Advent and runs a bereavement program in the fall and spring. The human services department responds to requests for assistance from those in the community who have material needs. The parish also has a school, a chapel and CYO sports program.
