Southampton Youth Services (SYS) was founded in 2000 with the goal of providing a fun and safe place for local children in the winter. Southampton Town provided the property to SYS, and SYS raised the money for and built the Southampton Town Recreation Center, which opened in 2003. SYS gave the building to the town, and the town leased the building back to SYS for 100 years. It includes a weight room, treadmills, indoor basketball courts, squash courts, a gymnastics facility, an outdoor pool and fields for lacrosse, field hockey, soccer and football. SYS offers summer camp, leagues, clinics and after-school programs and classes. Southampton School District provides buses to the rec center for students. Though it was designed for children and teens, SYS is open to adults. Future Stars built tennis courts on the property, and some of the courts are covered in a heated "bubble" during the winter for year-round play.
Open time on the courts and the hockey rink is based on availability. Reservations must be made 24 hours in advance, and a 50 percent deposit is required.
