Originally founded in the town of Sayville before the first World War, the Sayville Yacht Club is a private club now located in Blue Point. In the late 19th century, a group of sailors broke away from the New York Yacht Club and formed the Southside Division of the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club; in 1957, the club bought property in Blue Point.
SYC provides youth and adult sailing programs on the Great South Bay that frequently have the highest enrollment of any of the local junior sailing programs. The club provides beginner through advanced swimming lessons and lifesaving, and it also hosts various events such as a weekly family-night dinner, an annual clam bake and several sailing regattas throughout the year.
