History
From 2000-2003 I created and led numerous successful long distance running programs. But in 2004 a knee injury and subsequent surgery knocked me out of commission. During my rehab, rope jumping--something I had done for 25 years--was my salvation. And then the lightbulb went on. There were practically no rope jumping classes in the entire city. I created Punk Rope to help folks get fit, have fun, discover great music, and build community. I invite you to come to a class to see what we're all about.
Specialties
Founded in 2004, Punk Rope is a mash-up of jump rope and bodyweight training which improves cardiovascular conditioning, strength, coordination, agility, speed, rhythm, timing, and body composition. All fitness levels are welcome and jump ropes are provided. Punk Rope has been featured by Gothamist, Greatist, Thrillist, the Huffington Post, Time Out, ABC, NBC, CBS, Maxim, and the The Wall Street Journal. Punk Rope classes take place monthly from May through October on select Saturdays at 10am at Washington Park in Park Slope. The suggested donation is $15. We also hope to offer a weekly class on Sunday afternoons from May through October at Runaway Roof in Bushwick. Private jump rope lessons are offered year round. In addition, we sell four types of jump ropes which range in price from $9.99 to $14.99. Our classic rope ($9.99) is rated 5/5 stars by the American Council on Exercise and Jump Rope Veteran.
