Founded in 1987, NYC Outward Bound is an independent urban Outward Bound Center in the United States. Outward Bound is a nonprofit educational organization, founded in 1942, that changes lives, builds teams and transforms schools. The organization s educational method, Expeditionary Learning, is used in schools throughout the nation. It provides organizational development sessions for school and district staff, and field-based adventure programs for staff and students. The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors and an advisory council comprising New York City business, education and civic leaders. NYC Outward Bound is located in Long Island City, N.Y. The organization is an approved vendor for New York City Department of Education s school leadership teams.
