The North Merrick Fire Department, organized in 1926, has approximately 85 volunteer members composed of highly-trained firefighters and emergency medical technicians that serve the 2.5 square miles of the North Merrick Fire District.
The department is consists of five companies—Engine 1, Engine 2, Hook and Ladder, Rescue and Fire Police—and maintains a full complement of fire and medical apparatus consisting of three engines, one ladder truck, heavy rescue truck and two ambulances.
In 2005, the North Merrick Fire Department was honored as Nassau County's EMS Agency of the Year.
