About Next Step On December 10, 1975, Next Step, Inc became the first facility in New York State to focus on the unique treatment needs of women. Licensed by New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services ( OASAS ), The Next Step is a not-for-profit 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) overseen by a Board of Directors. TNS provides residential treatment for up to twenty women, ages 18 and older, seeking recovery from addiction to alcohol or other drugs. Residents participate in nine to fifteen months of intensive, disciplined and self-help oriented treatment. Our philosophy is based upon the belief that chemical dependency is a primary, progressive, chronic disease that affects the whole person which, if left untreated, can be fatal. For treatment to be successful, the physical, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of the disease must be addressed. Every component of our program is designed to help women prepare to reenter society and live a healthy, chemical-free lifestyle and maintain sobriety; growing one day at a time. Residents must participate in all program activities, demonstrate progress in identifying negative and unhealthy coping skills, develop positive coping skills, and make the changes necessary to reach recovery goals. We believe in the 12-Step way of life and incorporate those principles into our daily lives and program. Each year, TNS receives approximately 100 referrals from a wide range of agencies. We do not discriminate based on religious belief, race, ethnic origin, social or economic status, or sexual preference.
