The City of New Rochelle Office for the Aging is located at the Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center, where most of its classes, activities and celebrations are held.
The Senior Center is a gathering place (not a residence) where seniors can eat, take classes and socialize with their peers. The center provides a daily lunch for seniors and has an easy drop-off box for New Rochelle Public Library returns. The Doyle Center also organizes classes in many different areas, including computer proficiency and Internet use. Other classes include arts and crafts, drawing, painting and choral singing. Exercise classes are also offered, including belly dancing, senior yoga, Dancer-cise and Aqua-cise at the Lincoln pool in the summer.
The Senior Center also hosts celebrations throughout the year (such as the ninetieth-birthday party shown in the photos) and organizes day trips to the Westchester Broadway Theater, Broadway shows in Manhattan, and the Empire City Casino in Yonkers.
Please contact the Office for the Aging at the Hugh A. Doyle Senior Center to find out how it can assist senior residences with financial advice, transportation assistance, and nutrition or health resources.
Note: Participation in many of the Senior Center's activities requires an Omnicard, which can be obtained from the New Rochelle Parks and Recreation Department with a photo ID and proof of residency. Read more about the Omnicard here: http://www.newrochelleny.com/index.aspx?nid=295
