History
Founded in 1940 by Murray Greenberg, Murray's Cheese has long been a fixture of New York's Greenwich Village. Along with neighboring food destinations Faicco's, Ottomanelli's and Rocco's, Murray's is part of the rich food history of this formerly Italian enclave. Initially a wholesaler of butter and eggs, Murray's has evolved into New York's (and the United States') best loved cheese shop, and opened a second location in Grand Central Terminal Market in 2002. The Murray's family of businesses has come a long way over the past two decades, which includes two stores and a restaurant in New York City, a wholesale business that supplies fine restaurants, a mail order business that ships cheese nationwide and mini-Murray's within grocery stores in 11 states.
