In the spring of 2010, Vintner Russ McCall, who owns a wine distributing company in Atlanta, converted an old potato barn on his property into a small, rustic tasting room. It opened for business in June 2010 to good response from wine enthusiasts looking for something low-key.
Mr. McCall first planted pinot noir and merlot grapes at McCall's Farm Vineyard in 1996 on about 20 acres of preserved land near Downs Creek and the Fort Corchaug National Historic Site, a patch of woods where a Native American Indian fort stood in the 1600s.
