Founded in 1984, Mary McDowell Center for Learning is an independent school and resource center for children with learning disabilities. It is a nonprofit educational institution that serves more than 185 students from 5 to 14 years. The school offers an innovative program of academic work, enrichment activities and therapeutic support services. It also offers classes in visual arts, music, physical education, dance, drama, library science and computer. The center s middle school division enrolls over 70 students in grades six through eight and provides a challenging and enriched program. Its academic curriculum includes language arts, math, reading, science and social studies. The center conducts several outreach programs, including an annual math and science fair; a roundtable presentation for professionals, parents and the general public; and the Mary McDowell Teaching and Learning Center, which offers extensive professional training to educational professionals and parents.
