The Port Washington Teachers Association was founded in 1932. It is the voice of the teachers of Port Washington. As such, it speaks on behalf of all teachers, department chairpersons, guidance counselors, librarians, psychologists, speech clinicians, and social workers. The constitution of the Association lists as its objectives: To work for the welfare of the teachers and school children of Port Washington. To promote the general welfare of the school system. To stimulate interest in, and methods for, professional growth. To form a representative body able to speak with authority on behalf of all teachers. To work for higher standards of professional ethics. To promote understanding and cooperation between the teachers and the community. There are two groups that are affiliated with the Port Washington Teachers Association. The Substitute Teacher Chapter represents the interests of per diem substitute teachers. The Retired Educators of Port Washington is an organization whose membership encompasses all retirees of the Port Washington schools.
