JETRO, also known as Japan External Trade Organization, is a nonprofit organization that promotes trade and investment between Japan and other countries of the world. It operates through various branches in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. The organization supports companies in the health care, automobile and manufacturing and services sectors. It promotes Japanese food items, merchandise, industrial products, and arts and crafts. The organization also promotes Japanese entertainment industry and conducts movie premiers and music concerts. Established in 1958 to promote Japanese exports abroad, the organization promotes foreign direct investment into Japan and helps small- and medium-sized firms maximize their global export potential. JETRO maintains a location in New York City.
