The Division of Lands and Forests is responsible for the management, protection and recreational use of land in New York State. The division s forest preserve management bureau is responsible for the care and custody of more than 3 million acres of land. It includes Adirondack Forest Preserve and Catskill Forest Preserve. The Division of Lands and Forests produces seedling and transplant materials for conservation plantings on public and private land. The division operates a forest health protection section that gives current and historical information on forest health and protected native plants, as well as programs for protection. It conducts land acquisition and boundary line maintenance surveys. The Division of Lands and Forests includes land featuring recreational trails for camping, hiking, mountain biking, snowmobiling, horse riding and snow shoeing.
