As a part of the Nassau County in New York, the District Attorney's Office is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of the violations of state and local criminal statutes in Nassau County. It is one of the largest district attorney's offices in the United States that employs more than 300 staff members. The department has an early case assessment bureau that assesses and analyzes charges at the arrest-stage of a criminal prosecution, as well as is responsible for staffing a 24-hour desk that allows communication between the District Attorney's employees and members of Nassau County's law enforcement community. It provides social service agency referrals and financial assistance though the New York State Crime Victims Board. The District Attorney's Office additionally conducts regular press conferences and testing events.
