Chinese Center on Long Island was established in 1960 to promote the study and preservation of Chinese heritage and language. In 1962 it became a nonprofit corporation, receiving its charter from the New York Secretary of State. It moved to its current location in West Hempstead in 1967.
The center offers classes in art, literature, philosophy, history, music, language and dance. Through its monthly meetings, members can learn about topics ranging from health and insurance to education and community affairs. It also hosts events throughout the year, including a Chinese New Year banquet, and co-sponsors Chinese American Night, which is held in Eisenhower Park.
