Carver Federal Savings and Loan Association formally began operations on Jan. 5, 1949, the birthday of George Washington Carver, for whom the company is named. The bank was established more than 50 years ago as a service for African Americans and Caribbean Americans in New York. It is an urban community development bank that provides a range of services. Carver Bancorp is the holding company of Carver Federal Savings Bank, a federally charted savings bank. Carver Federal Savings Bank has nearly 10 branch locations and dozens of ATM locations in Harlem, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx.
