Cooperative Extension Association
Established in 1918, Cornell Cooperative Extension, located in Schenectady, N.Y., offers various educational, nutrition and health, agriculture and horticultural sustainability programs for children, youth and families. It members participate in the 4-H Organized Youth Groups program that is a vehicle for youth in grades kindergarten through 12 to develop knowledge, skills, abilities, attitudes and behaviors. It also participates in AmeriCorps, a national service movement that involves Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service to address critical issues in education, public safety, environment and other human needs in their communities. The organization also offers various independent living skills programs that include curriculum areas, such as interpersonal and social skills, future planning, career awareness, employment and vocational skills, home and financial management, and health and wellness programs. Its agricultural programs include dairy and livestock production and management, field crop production, greenhouse, turf grass, landscape and nursery production, addressing environmental issues, marketing, land use planning, and integrated pest management practices.
