A pioneer in kosher summer camping for children with cancer and other medically catastrophic illnesses, Camp Simcha was established by Chai Lifeline in 1987. It runs multiple two-week sessions for youngsters from throughout North America, Europe and Israel who have encountered serious illnesses. At Camp Simcha, situated on 125 acres in Glen Spey, N.Y., illness fades into the background as children's days take on a soul-refreshing routine that includes miniature golf, swimming, crafts, rocketry, photography, drama, pottery, woodworking and computers. Music, dance and karate, which engage both the body and spirit, are integral parts of the camp program. Every summer, the camp has four or five concerts that star popular entertainers. Off-campus trips, such as New York Day, are highlights of a Camp Simcha stay.
