Founded in 1897, the Bedford Library is the first library in the Brooklyn Public Library system and one of the neighborhood's oldest living institutions. The inside of the library was renovated and modernized in 2010. The bi-level library features two community meeting rooms, two quiet rooms, 15 computers and a literacy center. The library is a popular after-school destination for students of PS 3 .
Library cards are free and the Bedford branch offers free WiFi and a copy machine. Some of the library's after-school programs include Reading is Fundamental (R.I.F.) and "This and That," (Mon - Fri, 3:30pm - 3:30 pm ) one hour of games, reading and arts and crafts. They also offer some adult programs for members, such as crocheting and knitting classes.
