Peconic Public Broadcasting is the only NPR affiliate based on the East End of Long Island. It also broadcasts PBS's News Hour and the BBC World Service, and its local programming includes "In the Morning" with Bonnie Grice, "Urban Jazz" and "Friday Night Soul" with Ed German, "Dog Talk" with Tracie Hotchner, "LI Morning Edition" with Michael Mackey and "The Brian Cosgrove Show." WPPB was started by former WLIU employees who wanted to save the public radio station after Long Island University announced in August 2009 that it would stop funding the station and auction its licenses and equipment. The station had been located at Long Island University's Southampton College in Shinnecock Hills, but the campus was sold to Stony Brook University in 2006. The WLIU was only welcome to stay at the newly dubbed Stony Brook Southampton for a few years, and it relocated in 2010 to its current studio and offices in Southampton Village. The station is now independent of a university and supported by underwriting and its listeners.
