Breaking Walls Inc is a non-profit youth empowerment movement founded in 2011, dedicated to helping young individuals discover their voice through artistic expression. Through innovative programming and skilled mentors, Breaking Walls encourages young participants to utilize creative activism and peacemaking models to produce original pieces of literary, visual, and vocal art, instrumental music, dance, and ensemble performances. Their mission is to create a unified and justice-oriented global community by bringing together young people from diverse backgrounds through art and activism.
Breaking Walls was born out of an arts and social justice project initiated by Fran Tarr in 2008, where disadvantaged young people from Brooklyn, NY, and Bethlehem, Palestine, came together to build mutual respect and understanding through collaborative artistic endeavors. Since then, Breaking Walls has expanded its reach to serve young individuals facing social unrest, intolerance, and peer pressure in various communities across Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America. Through in-school workshops, virtual artist cooperatives, community-based initiatives, and international summits, Breaking Walls continues to empower and inspire young people of all races, religions, and origins.
