History
BDNY was founded by Flouer Evelyn in 2011. Flouer ran weekly dances and classes, taught workshops, organized, and DJ'd for 5 years. In the fall of 2015 Flouer began to take a backseat in the BDNY organization, leaving it in the capable hands of Melissa Cohen. Melissa is responsible for bringing monthly live music to BDNY, as well as infusing her passion into the community. In August 2019, Melissa stepped down as Director of BDNY and handed the keys off to Sabrina Ramos and Virginia Jimenez. As co-directors Virginia and Sabrina are excited to continue the tradition of blues dancing in New York City. They are excited to bring more live musicians into the fold, and to generate interest and education in blues history. To learn more, check out our website!
