The Blue Point Fire Department, which was founded in 1890, is a volunteer-run organization. Volunteers must complete training classes offered by the Suffolk County Firefighters Training Academy, and the 80 volunteers who make up the department must also pass a written exam and obtain a Firefighter 1 certificate. The department, located across the street from Blue Point Elementary School and adjacent to Bayport-Blue Point Library, is organized with three companies: Hose Company, Engine Company and Hook and Ladder Company. BPFD also has a Fire Police Squad.
