Hugh L. Carey Battery Park City Authority is a New York-based public benefit corporation created by the New York state legislature in 1968. The authority focuses on planning, developing, coordinating and maintaining a balanced community of commercial, residential, retail and park space within its more than 90-acre site. It also provides land on lease for developers who build in accordance with its guidelines and environmental specifications. The authority focuses on designing green buildings to reduce energy and water consumption, improve indoor air quality, recycle construction waste, utilize recycled materials, and monitor and maintain the efficiency of its systems through commissioning. It operates an organization to maintain several parks and gardens without the use of toxic pesticides and fertilizers. The authority offers real estate services through a range of realtors and management agencies.
