Established in 1983, Bailey House, in New York City, provides housing and support facilities for people suffering from HIV/AIDS. It also provides drop-in services that include food and nutrition, clothing and lending library services, assessments of housing needs and eligibility for housing subsidies, assistance in locating housing and escorting clients to view apartments, assistance in communicating with landlords or housing providers and inspections of apartments and housing facilities to assure safety and appropriateness. It also provides back-to-work and back-to-school programs, online classes, life skill workshops, job placement and work transition support services, technical skills training, job readiness training, adult basic literacy tutorial services, vocational rehabilitation and counseling and computer and basic literacy programs. Bailey also provides mental health and substance abuse services, therapeutic recreation, case management services, nutritional counseling, medication management, human resources technical assistance, program evaluation services, the permanent housing and special efforts for subpopulations technical assistance program, fiscal infrastructure program and housing services and operations.
