Athena Amini, DNP works at Department of Neurology, Division of Epilepsy. Dr. O’Shea sees patients with all movement disorders including Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, atypical parkinsonism, tremor, ataxia, chorea and dystonia. She specializes in Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for movement disorders, including patient selection, evaluation, intra-operative assessments, and post-operative programming. She is also skilled in neurotoxin injections for movement disorders and spasticity.Dr. O’Shea’s research interests include investigating prodromal biomarkers of Parkinson’s disease and the effects of neurotoxicant exposure on the development of neurodegenerative disease. She also leads several clinical trials for Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease. Her research has previously been funded by the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA). Dr. O’Shea is a member of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) and American Academy of Neurology (AAN). She is a credentialed member of the Parkinson Study Group (PSG) and Huntington Study Group (HSG). She was also appointed to serve on the exam writing committee for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Dr. Sarah O’Shea is an Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physician and Surgeons. She obtained her medical doctorate at the University of Illinois. She completed her residency training and served as Chief Resident in Neurology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She then completed her fellowship training in Movement Disorders at Columbia University Medical Center and completed the Neuroepidemiology Training Program (NETP, Master of Science in Epidemiology) during her training at Columbia University. Prior to joining the faculty at Columbia, Dr. O’Shea was an Assistant Professor of Neurology in the Division of Movement Disorders at Boston University School of Medicine.

Dr. Lavine dedicates his practice exclusively to diseases associated with the cerebrovascular system and to those diseases treated with Endovascular Neurosurgical and Interventional Neuroradiological Procedures. He was among the first surgeons in the country to complete training in these procedures after completing neurosurgical training. His expertise is in the area of neurovascular pathology including such conditions as brain hemorrhage, brain aneurysms, brain and spinal cord arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), carotid and vertebral artery disease, and stroke. He serves as a Director of Neuroendovascular Services at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and is a Professor of Neurological Surgery in the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Lavine and the other members of the Neurovascular Team in the Department of Neurological Surgery offer comprehensive care of cerebrovascular and related diseases. Additionally, Dr. Lavine collaborates with all other members of the Department of Neurosurgery and many other specialties that recommend the use of minimally invasive endovascular and percutaneous procedures to the benefit of patients with a wide variety of conditions.
